Booker T. Washington was a Negro slave from Burrough plantation. He
lived with his mother and his sibling, John and Mandy. His mother,
Jane, was the cook for Burrough family and his step father, Jim,
worked in cotton plantation. Since he was child, Booker have worked
hard and he always done his duty perfectly. He is a plain smart,
diligent, and ambitious boy. One day, Booker wanted to read. At that
time, it was impossible for Negro slaves to study.
In 1865, the war ended and the slaves were free. Booker and his
family moved to Malden. They thought if they were free, they would
get a better life. But the fact, they life became harder than
before. Booker must work to help his family, but he still wanted to
read. So, he took a night class in Negro school. When Booker was
sixteen years old, he decided to go to college. Borrowing his
brother's money, Booker went to Hampton collage. Booker was the
first Negro who studied at college.
Fifteen years latter, Booker founded the Tuskegee Institute. He
became a famous person. Everyone who knew Booker will proud of him.
